Here is the first part of my interview with Joe Jeannette, who was a member of the sax section in the famous Ambrose Orchestra, from 1928 until 1942.
The interview was conducted at Joe's home in Felixstowe in 1986, when he was 87 (he was born in Dublin, Ireland in July 1898) and I was 24 (born July 1961)!
In this part of the extensive interview with Joe, he talks about his early days in the British Army during the First World War, as well as his time in India in the 1920s as a member of the Governor of Bombay's 20-piece orchestra. He also mentions his days as a dance band musician in London in the late 1920s, before joining Ambrose And His Orchestra.
Part two of the interview will be uploaded soon and this will concentrate specifically on Joe's years with Ambrose.
