Drive America’s Highways for approximately 64 miles north along Interstate 55 from Blytheville, Arkansas, to Sikeston, Missouri. This segment of I-55 offers a fast and straightforward route through the flat agricultural lands of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, connecting the northeastern corner of Arkansas to the key junction town of Sikeston, Missouri.

The drive begins at Exit 71 in Blytheville, where Arkansas Highway 150 meets the interstate just north of town. After a brief stretch through the rural Arkansas Delta, I-55 crosses into Missouri, entering Pemiscot County. This part of the Missouri Bootheel is defined by its expansive farmland, wide-open skies, and a network of drainage canals that support some of the most productive agricultural land in the region.

The first major interchange comes at Exit 17 in Hayti, where two important highways meet I-55. Interstate 155 splits off to the east, providing a direct connection to Caruthersville and crossing the Mississippi River Bridge into Dyersburg, Tennessee. Meanwhile, U.S. Route 412 heads west, linking Hayti to Kennett and other towns scattered throughout the Bootheel. This interchange acts as a key hub for east-west travel in the region.

Continuing north, I-55 remains rural and relatively quiet, passing through a broad landscape of flat cropland with occasional clusters of grain elevators and small farm towns. Around Exit 32, drivers pass by Portageville, a small city with historic ties to the development of the area’s flood control and farming industries.

The highway then runs uninterrupted through more of Missouri’s delta region before arriving at Sikeston. At Exit 66, I-55 intersects with Interstate 57, providing northbound travelers with connections toward Cape Girardeau, Southern Illinois, and eventually Chicago. The interchange also connects to U.S. Highway 60, which travels westward toward Poplar Bluff and the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.

Looking to the south, Interstate 57 is being extended from Sikeston into Arkansas, forming a new corridor that will eventually link Sikeston to Little Rock. The route follows a southwest alignment through the Missouri Bootheel and into Clay County, Arkansas, continuing southward through towns like Corning and Pocahontas. In Arkansas, over 120 miles of Interstate 57 are already open to traffic, stretching from the outskirts of North Little Rock to Walnut Ridge, with additional segments under active development to close the remaining gaps. When completed, I-57 will create a continuous north-south interstate route, enhancing connectivity between Little Rock, Sikeston, and beyond, while providing a significant upgrade for regional freight and passenger traffic across the Arkansas Delta and southeast Missouri.

This segment of Interstate 55 provides an efficient, direct route through a unique section of the American Midwest. With minimal urban traffic and expansive views of the flatlands, it serves as a key commercial and travel corridor between Arkansas, Missouri, and the greater Mid-South region.
