Through a public records request, the Dayton Informer has obtained the internal "report cards" for Dayton Public School Principals, as performed by District's Executive Director of Secondary Education and Employee Development Dr. Marlea Jordan Gaskins.
The yearly evaluation, a document entitled the "Building Administrator Performance Excellence Appraisal Instrument" was given to all six Dayton Public School Principals. Dunbar Principal Marlayna Randolph's performance was not reviewed by by Gaskins. As reported in a 2011 Dayton Informer story, Randolph is the maternal niece of Gaskins. According to DPS Policy, no employee is to be directly related to the supervisor giving their evaluation.
All of the principals received overall satisfactory ratings, with Meadowdale Principal Melanie Walter receiving the most "Excellent" and "Satisfactory" ratings. Stivers Principal Erin Dooley had the most marks in the category of "needs improvement", with three.
All of the principals except one were checked off in the documents as having met performance requirements. The evaluation of Thurgood Marshall Principal Sharon Goins left the yes or no question unchecked.
