Earl Godwin: So you know he was exiled and he had a son called Harold, but what about the rest of his life?
Born in the 990s-early 1000s, the son of a commander of the English fleet against the Vikings, Godwin was left in a position of power from a young age. After showing loyalty to King Cnut, he gained the title, Earl of Wessex and was part of many plots and conspiracies - the murder of Aethling Alfred, for instance.
The earlier life of Earl Godwin may not be part of the GCSE, but it's certainly interesting to learn about - or should I say an interesting topic?
