The Intentona Integralista was the result of an articulation carried out by the militia wing of the Brazilian Integralist Action in movement against the Estado Novo. The event took place in Rio de Janeiro, on May 11, 1938 and aimed at the deposition of the President of the Republic, Getúlio Vargas, in response to Decree-Law No. 37 - which extinguished political associations across the country - and the subsequent closure of the AIB.
The action aimed to arrest the president inside his residence, the Guanabara Palace, through the invasion of the palace, led by Severo Fournier; and movements by naval officers. The uprising was unsuccessful, and ended with about 1500 incarcerations and the exile of Plínio Salgado, supreme leader of the integralists, to Portugal.
