After four years as a senator, Getúlio Vargas won the 1950 election and thus returned to the position of President of Brasil. On a last ditch attempt the opposition tried to cancel the election results by claiming that he won with less than 51% of the votes, and thus a new election should be called, but there was no such mechanism on the constitution and Vargas got reinaugurated in January 31st 1951.
