Intel had its investor meeting for 2022, and of course, this is where intel’s marketing side needs to shine. So, What do we have here? Well, a lot! Let’s start with the CPU side of things. First, we got confirmation that Raptor lake, the 13th generation of high-end desktop CPU’s from intel, will have 24 cores and 32 threads. That’s 8 performance cores with 16 threads and 16 efficient cores with one thread each. The core count is nothing new, but now its official.
Raptor lake will also be compatible with the Alder lake platform, so no need to buy a new motherboard for the 13th gen. That’s pretty cool since it means your DDR4 memory will still be compatible for another generation!
Then, It looks like Overclocking will also have some enhancements which is fine, and we have compatibility with AI M.2 modules. Now, that is interesting but we’ll talk about it in another video since AI memory modules is a brand new thing. SK Hynix has something similar coming up for GPU memory so ill catch up on it and have a video ready. [...]
So that’s the CPU new’s what about intel’s GPU’s? Well, let’s start with Alchemist And it's not that great of news. If you thought that intel would be able to produce enough GPUs to cover a gap in the market, it looks like the company itself just confirmed it wouldn't be the case. Raja Koduri, the Graphics frontman of intel, confirmed that the company would ship about 4 million + GPU’s into the market this year.
To put that into perspective, about 40 million GPU’s were shipped in 2021, and the number is for sure going to be higher in 2022, so even with 2021 numbers, that’s only a 10% increase in GPU’s floating around. and that 4 million GPU figure from intel.. yeah, it includes the mobile market too. So while they will be out there, they’re going to be pretty rare.
