"The Documentary" is the debut album by American rapper the Game. It was released on January 18, 2005, under Aftermath Entertainment, G-Unit Records, and Interscope Records. This album marks his official entry into the music industry, following his earlier independent release titled "Untold Story" in 2004. After surviving a shooting in 2001, the Game decided to focus on music while recovering in the hospital. He released a mixtape called "Q.B. 2 Compton" under his label "Get Low Recordz" in 2002, which caught the attention of Dr. Dre. This led to the Game signing with Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath Entertainment. "The Documentary" includes production from renowned producers like Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Scott Storch, and Timbaland, and features guest appearances from artists such as 50 Cent, Eminem, Nate Dogg, and Faith Evans.

He began his music career by releasing mixtapes with the support of fellow West Coast rapper JT the Bigga Figga. His first independent album, Untold Story, was released in 2004. Later, record producer Dr. Dre discovered him and signed him to the Aftermath Records label. The Game rose to fame in 2005 with his major-label debut album The Documentary, which reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart. His next album, Doctor's Advocate, released in 2006, also achieved success. The Documentary album received double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and earned two Grammy nominations for its single "Hate It or Love It" featuring 50 Cent.

Illmatic is the first studio album by American rapper Nas. It came out on April 19, 1994, under Columbia Records. With the help of MC Serch, Nas got signed to the label. He worked on the album from 1992 to 1993 in different studios in New York City like Chung King Studios and D&D Recording. Nas, along with DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and L.E.S., produced the album. Illmatic is known for its tough hip hop style and tells stories about Nass life in Queensbridge Houses, where he grew up in Queens, New York City.
