The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse is the seventh album by American rapper Jay-Z. It's a double album that came out on November 12, 2002, through Roc-A-Fella Records and Island Def Jam Music Group. It follows his sixth album, The Blueprint, released in 2001. The album debuted at number one, selling 545,000 copies in its first week. It's certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. In 2013, Jay-Z said it was his second-worst album because it had too many songs. They released a single-disc version called Blueprint 2.1 in 2003.

Then, in the next year, he started Roc Nation, his own entertainment company. Jay-Z grew up in New York City and began making music in the late 1980s. He started Roc-A-Fella Records in 1994, where he released his first two albums, Reasonable Doubt (1996) and In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1997). Both albums were praised by critics.
