What exactly defines an action camera? Is it just about being waterproof and tough, or is it something more? For me, an action camera has to be ready for anything—able to withstand a beating, rain, and everything in between. But what about a camera that is both robust and... well, a little fragile?
In this video, I'm putting that question to the test by comparing two of the most popular action cameras on the market: the DJI Action 5 Pro and the Insta360 GO Ultra. This isn't a test of which camera can survive the biggest drop. Instead, it's a real-world showdown focused on what matters most to creators like me: ease of use, image quality straight from the camera, and practical mounting options.
I took both cameras out for a simple jog in some light rain, with the settings on full auto. The goal? To see which one delivered the best results with minimal fuss. While the DJI Action 5 Pro is a brilliant and robust camera that offers fantastic image quality (especially if you're a fan of color grading with its 10-bit and D-Log capabilities), it often requires the right settings to truly shine.
On the other hand, the Insta360 GO Ultra delivers brilliant quality right out of the box, with no complicated settings needed. And that's what I love about it—it's just simple. For me, that simplicity is crucial. When it comes to mounting, the GO Ultra is the clear winner. Its light weight means it's not affected by body movements, making it perfect for a head clip mount, and the stabilization is absolutely fantastic.
