DJI Pocket 3 (2023) vs Insta360 Luna Ultra (2026), does newer technology really matter, or is the older DJI Pocket 3 still the better camera?

The DJI Pocket 3 is still a fantastic camera, even three years after its release. It has excellent image quality, great stabilization, and has proven itself as one of the best pocket cameras ever made.

But technology moves fast, and as you’ll see in this test, I think the Insta360 Luna Ultra has the edge.

What makes this even more impressive is that the Luna Ultra is Insta360’s first real attempt at a pocket camera. They’ve done an amazing job, and it shows just how serious Insta360 is about competing in this market.

In this video, I put the two cameras side by side and test:

Normal/standard color profiles
Log profiles
Stabilization
Zoom
Overall usability
Real-world performance

There are still plenty of reasons to choose the DJI Pocket 3. If you're already invested in the DJI ecosystem and love the Pocket 3, I would absolutely recommend keeping it. I’m definitely not selling mine! It’s still a brilliant camera with excellent qualities.

But here's where it gets interesting...

If you already own the Pocket 3, I personally don’t see a big reason to upgrade to a Pocket 4 or Pocket 4 Pro just because it’s newer. If I wanted something genuinely different, I would rather look at the Insta360 Luna Ultra.

You get newer technology, more processing power, a fantastic detachable screen, excellent zoom capabilities, and an interface that works incredibly well, especially for solo creators.

And if this is what Insta360 can achieve with its first pocket camera, I can’t wait to see what comes next.

So, if I could only buy ONE of these cameras today?

👉 My choice would be the Insta360 Luna Ultra.

But don’t count out the DJI Pocket 3. Three years later, it’s still an incredible camera and one I’ll continue using.
