In the following experiment, we examine the effect of a very powerful oxidizing agent also known as manganese heptoxide versus selected reducting agents. Manganese heptoxide has a very strong electron affinity and is so reactive that it reacts with inert plastics such as polyethylene which will spontaneously ignite in the presence of this oxidizing agent. It’s so reactive that it oxidizes oxygen in the air to ozone.
