This is another video from 2Dgameartguru.com on character creation in Inkscape.
I am working with basic shapes, gradients, opacity, and blur to create a simple blue slime game character from scratch.
Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Affinity Designer with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.

![Affinity Designer Mini Tutorial - working with the XOR compound
I am a big fan of compounds in Affinity Designer. They are a quick and fully editable way to combine shapes to make complex elements. In this video, I will show you how to use the XOR.
XOR [exclusive or] is probably the most complex, least used, and underrated of the Boolean operations. It combines the shapes and calculates the overlay to determine fill or transparency. Even numbers in the layer overlay show transparency, while odd ones show the fill.
It can be quite useful [and very surprising at times] when working on logos, icons, or patterns... and its a lot of fun!

![Affinity Designer Tutorial - Creating a Knitted Pattern using Symbols
This video shows you the creation of a knitted pattern look in Affinity Designer using Symbols.
I use the ability of Affinity Designer to synchronize and stop synchronizing symbols to give them different colours, create the pattern with a plain shape, and replace it with a more elaborate design later.
I recorded a video on synchronizing symbols a while back:

I uploaded the source file with two different brushes [just the knitted pattern and the combo symbol with donut, polygon, star, and two knitted patterns] to my Gumroad page. Download it for FREE:

![Affinity Designer Mini Tutorial - Miniature Storefront design using basic shapes [workflow]
As part of the challenge on the Facebook group Affinity Designer - hands-on I recorded my workflow while creating the design using basic shapes, the corner tool, and clipping masks.
I create the clockmakers store using basic shapes - circles, rectangles, and cogs - with added text elements. Most of the shapes have solid fills [I did cheat a little and used a few gradients] and use shading shapes inside clipping masks for detail and depth.
Reusing, duplicating, and modifying existing elements make it easy to quickly create complex designs.
