The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that it removed candidates nominated by the party for the 2027 general election and replaced them with names allegedly unknown to the party.
INEC maintained that it does not nominate candidates for political parties, stressing that candidate nomination remains the responsibility of political parties in line with applicable regulations and guidelines.
The Commission also described allegations that its officials obtained nomination forms directly from aspirants and uploaded their details without party authorisation as serious, challenging the NDC to provide evidence against any official involved.
INEC says any official found to have engaged in unauthorised interference with a party’s nomination process would be investigated.
