This is "In the Winter," an a capella song I wrote when I was 16 years old. I performed it live at one of our MWROC’s for the first (and only) time in public. One of the biggest messages we share with our campers is that doing things that scare you, doing things that are out of your comfort zone, is how we grow. So, for ME, to sing a song “naked” and without musical accompaniment is soul-baring to say the least and was the best way I could think of to demonstrate that concept. ;)

IN THE WINTER (by Laura Kaye) - lyrics not to be used without permission
.
In the winter
sweet fragments out of time
drift down from the throne of the holy one
and I try, yes I try not to hold on
As the silent stream winds about the mountainside
I immerse in its healing waters
And I know, yes I know
Its ways are old
.
For as the wind runs its fingers through my hair
I close my eyes and listen to the day
The moods of the ocean invade my restless heart
Endless patterns in pastels guiding the waves
.
There are no secrets, the ancient ones declared,
and you've yet to tear the veil from your eyes
Once you can see you will know you have always been free
It just takes a little time to realize
.
As a leaf caught in the vortex
and taken for a ride
I've been carried by the winds to my life's stream
And I'll flow yes I'll flow
into the sea
.
I hear the music of the ocean calling me
And its placid song speaks of
tranquility
