Alice is a nutritionist who examines diabetes and treats obesity in children.
Anna, a 13 years old girl, is one of her patients. After examining Anna and collecting all her health data, Dr. Alice will improve Anna’s health and life by providing nutritional recommendations using a dashboard created by the EU funded Horizon 2020 project NUTRISHIELD.
This dashboard is a single point of access for all the patient’s medical info and a convenient tool to provide personalized nutritional advice.
The dietary suggestions provided by Dr. Alice will be transferred automatically from the dashboard to Anna and her parents through the NUTRISHIELD App.
While at the hospital, Anna completes a questionnaire regarding her food habits and lifestyle choices. Dr. Alice uses the dashboard to record all the answers along with Anna’s weight and height, and the results of her blood, urine and feces analyses.
Once all results are available in the NUTRISHIELD Dashboard, Dr. Alice will process the data to provide recommendations to Anna. By pressing the “i" button, the dietary recommendation algorithm is executed.
These results include the number of portions Anna should consume from each food category, and they can be found in the report section generated after each visit.
She can both provide input on the suggested daily food portions, and monitor Anna’s progress, while providing explanations or adaptations if needed.
The advanced machine learning algorithm processes the important information from Anna, like the analysis of her microbiome and metabolomics, in order to provide personalized advice.
Also, Anna is asked to reply to specific questions to monitor her adherence to the dietary plan.
By using the NUTRISHIELD app, Anna reports what she ate each day, as well as her daily habits. All this information is available to her doctor for processing and adjusting, if needed.
During Anna's next visit, Dr. Alice will record new medical and questionnaire data in the dashboard, further improving and personalizing her recommendations.
Within 4 and a half years, NUTRISHIELD reached its goal integrating all the required elements such as laboratory techniques, methodologies, ICT devices & applications, algorithms and other components into one platform as a new tool for fact-based personalized nutrition.
