A new wish effect from Reality Fracture. Extrapolate the Impossible for two mana, one and a black total, a sorcery. You choose two different cards with different names from your sideboard. You reveal them to your opponent. Your opponent chooses one. That card goes into your hand. A lot of people are really, really excited about this card because it doesn't have any restrictions like choosing only sorceries for something like Burning Wish, for example. That said, there are certainly downsides too. And I'm coming at this from the combo perspective. It might see some play in fair decks, but that's not what we do here.
So from a Storm perspective, I typically play four bounce spells in my sideboard, which are all Boomerang Basics. You can now do one Into the Flood Maw, one Chain of Vapor, one Boomerang Basics, and a Void Snare. The illusion of choice, am I right? However, I typically board in three bounce spells in most matchups, leaving one for Burning Wish. Now with Extrapolate the Impossible, you would actually have to leave two. And now your sideboarding is slightly different. On top of that, when I board in three, if those cards aren't useful, I could just cycle a Boomerang Basics. You can't do that if you're playing Into the Flood Maw or Chain of Vapor. So there are some downsides there.
This might seem minor, but these sorts of things are actually going to be really common with Extrapolate the Impossible. People are talking about the illusion of choice between Beseech the Mirror and Tendrils of Agony, for example. Like, you have the win, you have four mana, choose Beseech the Mirror or Tendrils of Agony. Well, if your main deck Tendrils of Agony is exiled to something like Bojuka Bog, there actually is a choice. And it's not just free to play Extrapolate the Impossible. So I just want to call attention to things like that.
Or you need to beat The One Ring. So you might want to play Approach of the Second Sun and Debt to the Deathless. You might be thinking, that's okay, but there are actually only 15 sideboard slots. So you're going to have to make concessions somewhere. And that's actually a big issue. Not to mention, those two powerful sorceries win in different ways. Debt to the Deathless wants Gaea's Will. Approach of the Second Sun wants Song of Creation. So you have to make a decision and then win that way. And if your opponent knows what you're up to, they can actually use it against you. So there's some counterplay to this card as well. I don't think that it's all upside.
In The EPIC Storm for a long time, we've wanted a wish card that we could grab in order to beat Stifle, Consign to Memory, things like that. And our card has been Thoughtseize, but we really wanted a silence effect. With Extrapolate the Impossible, you could actually grab Silence or Orim's Chant, which is a nice benefit to the card. That said, I think the card is a little bit of a trap overall. And people are going to realize that this card is a bust. A lot of people are really excited about this card in the Storm Discord, but I think they're going to be disappointed over time. Am I wrong? Let me know in the comment section down below.
