IGFA Member, Mihaela Biliovschi Smith, saw the need to reach and empower children from a local Interim Care Center stating “Teaching vulnerable children how to fish responsibly may achieve a double goal: one is that they would have learned a life-long skill that they will love; and the second; is that they will learn about the importance of protecting their marine assets and environment while becoming advocates for responsible and sustainable fishing.” Determined to provide the children with a fun and educational fishing experience, IGFA Members and Barefoot Fishing West Africa staff hosted an improvised Passports to Fishing event for the inaugural IGFA Day (2019) even though the official IGFA kit was stuck in transit.
