If you're asking a thoughtful, sincere question in a religiously abusive environment and you're shut down, it’s not because your question is wrong—it’s because they don’t have a solid answer, and their pride won’t allow them to admit it. Or because they know the truth won't serve their agenda.
You and your question are not the problem.
In a healthy environment, leaders respond with humility. They’re able to say, “I don’t know, but let’s explore that together.” Their identity isn’t threatened by uncertainty, and they don’t need to appear all-knowing to maintain authority. They're also honest when it doesn't seem to directly serve them (it certainly does in the long run!).
True spiritual leadership creates space for curiosity, not fear.
