Learn how horses really learn — from the release, not the pressure. Build softness, feel, and lightness in every ride.
If you feel like you’re kicking harder, pulling stronger, or fighting your horse, this video is for you. Most riders don’t realise that horses learn from the release of pressure, not the pressure itself. In this lesson, I show you exactly how to use pressure and release horse training to build softness, lightness, and feel — without pulling or kicking.
I walk you through how to teach a horse to halt using timing and feel, how to use your seat and reins together, and how to stop your horse from leaning or becoming hard-mouthed. You’ll see how I use the release to reward the horse at exactly the right moment so they learn what I’m asking — not from the pressure, but from the release.
This is one of the most important foundations in riding with feel and understanding how horses learn. Once you get your timing right, you’ll go from pulling and kicking to clear, kind communication with your horse.
🎥 What I cover:
How horses learn from the release of pressure
How to re-educate a hard-mouthed horse
Why holding longer makes your horse heavy
How to use pressure and release to teach softness and responsiveness
This is the foundation of everything I do at Basic Horse Training — clear steps, calm horses.

![Building Basics: First Arena Ride On A Green Horse [ Unedited ]
🐴 In this raw and unedited video, join me for the first arena ride with Bonnie, the black mare Im starting under saddle. As shes still VERY green, I focus on helping her understand some basic foundations that will support her journey as a riding horse.
🌟 Horses often labeled as problem horses typically lack essential foundation training. By emphasizing patience and consistency, we can transform these misunderstandings into successful partnerships.
👀 Watch as I guide Bonnie through her initial steps in the arena, highlighting the importance of building a strong relationship and solid groundwork. This video offers valuable insights into the early stages of training, demonstrating how a solid foundation paves the way for a successful and harmonious riding experience.
