I have determined this channel (for now) has become a catch-all for my writings and prose, and little passion videos I want to store for my family. I wrote this poem in 2010, and my grandma saved it by her bedside table with some other papers. I found it almost 10 years later, and these words are extra pertinent, as I am now a mother, myself. I am so excited to share them with you! May God use them to bless you and remind you that there is a Father in heaven who is guiding your days.
If Jesus had a daughter?

If Jesus had a daughter,
I wonder how He’d want her raised.
If He walked upon this earth again
how would he guide her days?
Would He have time to play with her,
whether sports or even dress up?
Or would he rather go to work,
to have money beyond enough.
Would a bedtime story every night,
demand too much of His time?
Would He choose the books He read
with careful guidance of Divine.
How long would He sit with her
to truly know her heart?
Could He listen to her talk for hours
before boredom ever start?
Would He follow the yellow bus
on her first day of school?
Would He help her with her homework,
when she felt like a fool?
How would Jesus treat the mother
of the child He was raising
Would His calm and true demeanor
come no matter what the appraising.
Would the time to build a play house
come before a football game?
Would the time to push her on a swing
rate above great lights and fame?
Would He tell her exactly how to live
With rules and boundaries strict?
Or live in such a way Himself,
she’d notice morality convicts?
When His child stepped outside the bounds
would he punish her with a blow?
Or would he kindly guide her back on track
His rod of love and example to show.
Can you ever picture Jesus Christ
raising His voice up to a yell
at a child who made a mistake
at a little one who fell?
How long would Jesus wait outside
when His daughter is running late
I wonder if He’d beep His horn
too impatient to simply wait.
Would He walk along on every date
to ensure her heart stayed pure,
Or would He trust the love and care he showed
would make her boundaries sure?
Would He care about her education
her sports and even dance;
Would He make time for every event
to be with her at every chance?
How would Jesus show her love?
Would he buy her lots of things,
Or would He take the time He had
to show the joy the Father brings?
I often stop to wonder
how a child grows,
When raised with a perfect father
and still many turn their nose.
The only thing I know
is the power of free will
And I wonder if all children
see their choices are like a pill.
One pill leads to death
The other eternal life
The only chance we have at truth
Is making sure the path is bright.
So to all the fathers in this world
who are bringing up a child
May your focus be to light the good
To make the choice clear without beguile
The only way to ensure
the choice is open and clear
Is to let Jesus raise your daughter
Let Him lead and steer.
