If you're on macOS and Ableton is crashing whenever you try to open a set, commonly it is due to a plugin. Simply navigate to your plugins folder (the file path is usually "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST" and simply move the plugin out of the folder temporarily. You can then open the Ableton set and delete the inactive instance of the plugin, then save the set. You can then drag the plugin back into the plugin folder and you're done!
