While recording gameplay footage of Leisure Suit Larry on my IBM 5160, my vintage IBM 5154 EGA color monitor suddenly released the infamous “magic smoke” mid-game. The culprit turned out to be a failed RIFA capacitor in the power supply, something many retro computing enthusiasts know all too well.

With help from Adrian at Adrian's Digital Basement, I was able to repair the monitor and bring it back to life. After replacing the RIFA capacitors and performing a minor color calibration, the display is now looking great again.

Now it’s back to Leisure Suit Larry… this time without the smell of burning RIFA caps filling the room.
