Our latest video is a documentation of ‘The Mass Ornament,’ Ian Davis’ ongoing exhibition at Galerie Judin.
On view in Davis’ first-ever exhibition in Berlin are 16 paintings, mostly on panel and a few on linen. These works, all created within the last four years, confront us with obscure and uncanny situations. Davis’ “mass ornaments” may be read as mirror images of today’s society and its structures, revealing how our time is shaped by an extreme division of labor and the resulting interchangeability of “human capital,” while the occurrence of catastrophes, ranging from natural disasters to terrorism, is on the rise.
