I went to Kenneth Copeland’s Southwest Believers’ Convention and sat through a sermon from Jesse Duplantis—and honestly, it was bad.

In this video, I break down what I heard, what stood out, and why so much of the message raised serious biblical concerns. Jesse Duplantis is known for his larger-than-life personality, prosperity preaching, extravagant claims, and constant emphasis on wealth, success, favor, and financial increase. But when you compare that kind of preaching with Scripture, the problems become difficult to ignore.
Was this sermon centered on Christ, repentance, holiness, and the gospel? Or was it built around stories, hype, entertainment, personal success, money, and emotional manipulation? Did Jesse carefully explain the biblical text, or did he use isolated verses and personal experiences to support ideas that the Bible does not actually teach?
The Southwest Believers’ Convention brings together some of the most recognizable names in the Word of Faith and prosperity-gospel movement. Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, and others have spent decades teaching that believers should expect extraordinary wealth, physical healing, material success, and supernatural favor. These messages often sound exciting, but excitement does not make a sermon biblical.
The real question is not whether a preacher is funny, energetic, confident, popular, or entertaining. The question is whether the message faithfully represents the Word of God.
In this reaction and sermon review, we will examine the theology, the claims, the storytelling, the use of Scripture, and the overall focus of Jesse Duplantis’ message. We will also discuss the dangers of personality-driven preaching, prosperity theology, exaggerated testimonies, and sermons that seem to make the preacher’s life and accomplishments more important than Jesus Christ.
The Bible does not teach that godliness is a guaranteed path to material wealth. In fact, Scripture warns about teachers who imagine that godliness is a means of financial gain. Jesus repeatedly warned against greed, storing up earthly treasures, and measuring life by possessions. The apostles preached Christ crucified, repentance, faith, endurance, holiness, and hope in the resurrection—not luxury, celebrity, private jets, and endless financial increase.
This video is not about attacking someone’s personality or mocking their style. It is about testing what was preached according to Scripture. Christians are commanded to examine teachings carefully, hold fast to what is good, and reject what is false. A preacher’s fame, age, influence, wealth, or audience does not place him above biblical evaluation.
