The BDR Organization recently released their new and improved Oregon BDR version 2.0. This new version has updated sections 1 and 2 which have moved west and no longer go through the barren desert of Eastern Oregon, opting instead for the high altitude forests between Lakeview and Chemult, Oregon.

I set out to ride NEW Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route sections 1 and 2 to see the changes for myself. Section 1 went very smoothly and I had a blast riding it. NEW ORBDR section 2, however...well let's just say I didn't quite make it through.
It turns out there as an update to the route that hadn't yet been pushed out, but it has since been corrected. I got stuck and had to turn around on the climb up to Hager Mountain, but the revised Oregon BDR now has that road as an optional harder section.
Thanks to all the volunteers at the BDR organization for putting together this new beginning to my favorite Backcountry Discovery Route. I can't wait to ride the whole NEW ORBDR in July!
