Cycling the world - Asia: episode 31
I wake up in the middle of nowhere on the side of the highway and start riding toward Abu Dhabi. Getting into the city is one of the most stressful rides so far, crossing multiple high speed motorways just to reach the centre. Somehow I make it through and, unexpectedly, it starts raining.
I spend a few days in Abu Dhabi with a Couchsurfing host from Pakistan, but I am not feeling great. The road to Dubai starts with a long ride on bike lanes through the desert, including a stop at Al Qudra where I camp hidden on a tiny ridge. The night is humid and uncomfortable and I am still a bit sick.
The next day I push through the final stretch toward Dubai. The cycling infrastructure outside the city is impressive, but entering Dubai is another challenge. I meet other cyclists along the way, including Maurizio from Italy, but the last kilometres are tense with fast traffic and dangerous crossings. At one point a truck nearly takes me out. Somehow I make it to Dubai Marina in one piece.
