Cycling the world - Asia: episode 27
I wake up between the dunes in the Saudi desert after another quiet night of wild camping. The day starts slow and I stop in a town where I end up spending hours inside Mickey D’s trying to recover, probably from another episode of low blood pressure. Eventually I get back on the bike and continue riding through the heat.
By evening I leave the highway to search for a place to camp when a Slovakian man stops me and tells me to follow him. He says there is a canyon nearby and cold beer waiting. I follow him and end up discovering a beautiful canyon where a strange and hilarious gathering is happening. It turns out to be the HHH running club, a group famous for running and drinking in equal measure. I spend the night with them and explore the canyon the next morning.
The journey continues to the largest oasis in the world which turns out to be a bit of a disappointment, so I keep riding until I find a quiet lake to camp near. The following day I push on toward Qatar and sleep once again in the desert in one of the most beautiful campsites of the trip.
