In this week’s FATHERS of the FUTURE Podcast, I am joined by Professional Skydiver with over 2100 jumps and former British Special Forces Elite Military Veteran Jules Ratcliff, who served in combat tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jules recalls his near-death experience for the first time since the accident in June of 2024.
When his parachute malfunctioned and ripped his leg off in mid-air.
His military training and awareness gave him the ability to apply a tourniquet around his own leg as he was free-falling from 4500 ft.
In this experience, we dive deep with a man who was in a medically induced coma for 6 weeks and has faced multiple surgeries since the accident.
After waking up, he felt the world was a mess for the first few days and recalls having no memory of who or what had happened.
“I can't remember anything, please help me.”
His two emotions during rehab allowed him to think, reflect, and develop a new mindset.
#1 Every single FN day goes in the right direction, don't run…walk and work towards getting better.
#2 You don't give yourself permission to feel sorry for yourself.

My greatest takeaway from the interview is that Jules kept a steadfast faith and appreciation, constantly thanking God for allowing his son to still have a father.
