Samsung just dropped three new foldables at Unpacked, and I was invited by Samsung to attend the watch party at Dubai Mall, where I got hands-on time with all three, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. I'm breaking down what's actually new, what's just a spec sheet bump, and what's genuinely worth your money.
The Fold 8 is the one that surprised me most. Samsung went wide this year, passport style, sitting between the Flip and the Ultra, and it's Samsung's lightest and widest book style foldable yet at just 201g. Great for media, e-reading, and general use, but the front the lack of a telephoto can be limiting.
The Fold 8 Ultra is the true flagship successor here. New titanium alloy hinge, a reduced crease, brighter display, upgraded ultrawide camera (now 50 MP), and finally a charging speed bump at 45W. But the battery is still capped at 5,000mAh, and I go into why that matters when you look at what competitors are shipping this year.
I also break down the camera samples directly, front versus rear, photo versus video, so you can judge image quality for yourself instead of just trusting spec sheets.
And yes, I talk just a little bit about the Flip 8. Spoiler, don't expect much there.
Let me know in the comments which one you're leaning toward!
