Conventional wisdom says a living-room-ready, console-style PC running SteamOS should be the massive mass-market hit. It’s practical, it frees us from Microsoft, and it brings PC gaming straight to the TV. Yet, looking through my own comment sections, a completely different story is emerging. The niche standalone VR headset, the Steam Frame, is generating way more hype, positive speculation, and genuine curiosity than the Steam Machine.
