On this day 56 years ago, at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, the basic track for "I Me Mine" was recorded. It was the last song recorded by The Beatles as a band, marking their final studio session with multiple members before the group's breakup.
During this recording, as is almost always the case with George's songs, only three Beatles are present: George on guitar, Paul on bass, and Ringo on drums. At this stage, the song appears in its original, shorter version, before later edits. Phil Spector later expanded the song during the assembly of the album Let It Be, making this take a crucial document of the song's initial structure before post-production modifications and final overdubs.
