To me, this patch sounds somewhere delightfully in the middle of creaky floorboards, stomach gurgles, & mischievous gremlins having a party—and I’m super happy about all of it. 😂

I’m processing the @moogsynthesizers Mother-32 using a @tomkatpedals Cloudy, to glitch & granularize the sound coming from the Mother-32.

I love recording strange patches like these, chopping things up even further and using the samples for other projects, or re-processing things to create even more gurgly-creaky-gremliny-worlds.

I find that the process of just playing & experimenting with sounds in this way sparks all kinds of new creative directions and ideas for projects. What begins as a goofy gremlin world can evolve into an idea for an entire piece, or a new technique for creating unusual percussive sounds, and so on... 🙂

Over the years, I’ve found that one of the MOST important and rewarding qualities to cultivate to become a creative musician and sound designer is curiosity—the openness to explore, ask “what if?”, try something even though it’s not fully figured out, and the willingness to be surprised by your instruments (& to learn from them). ❤️

What are some of your favorite go-to ways to generate ideas and/or sound material for a new piece? 👇
