😂

It made me laugh, but it also opened up an amazing conversation that I want to share the highlights of here with you:

My client was REALLY good at disguising his procrastination as “planning.”

He would plan every detail, plan out the tech, plan out the workflow…

But then get stuck before actually taking action on any of it.

Can you relate? (I definitely can).

Here’s the thing about planning: it’s important… to an extent.

Having a well considered plan for a project before jumping in can help things move smoothly, and it can help you focus and stay on track.

BUT - sometimes the magic of creativity lies in having no plan at all, and just seeing what emerges from DOING.

Sometimes the best starting point is simply a sound you love, or a random preset on your synth, or a melody that inspires you.

It’s ok to not have the full plan figured out from the beginning. It doesn’t make you less of a musician. In fact, it can oftentimes lead to new discoveries (and very possibly your best work yet!)

So, if you’re a planner too, here’s my advice:

- try out a “make it suck” session, in which you have no plan, no outcome, and you just PLAY

- be open to surprises (it may not be exactly what you imagined, but maybe something different is awesome too)

- record stuff before you think it’s ready

- remember that taking action will reveal your next step to you! ❤️
