I Don't Want to Cry Anymore
Every once in a while someone will send me a song and ask if I could do something with it. Mike Bessette sent me an email saying he would like to allow me to use his song I Don't Want to Cry Anymore. When I clicked on the song I found it to be a very roots based, pathetic on purpose love song.....which was right up my alley, because of course I love roots music of all kinds and I adore pathetic on purpose love songs (they just make me feel better...don't ask me why). Anyhow...I listened to the song and thought that I could hear something I could do with it...... The lyrics are simple but potent, discussing a longing and regret for a love once held.....a practically universal feeling that almost all of us can relate to. I found that the more the lyrics swirled in my head the more I got out of them....and I think you will find the same....listen to it a few times through... My favorite line is "And I can't well the tears that fall like rain....I can hide a few, that's all I can do". One of the fun things about performing someone else's music....especially something that no one else has ever heard before is deciding which personna you want to attach to the song....I was trying for a Joan Baez meets Alison Krauss feel here....something the could be sung around a camp fire in the 70's...but also sounds like something that maybe you could hear Alison sing tomorrow....hope you enjoy this. :)
