I've always loved this song. It just feels good. Posting as the second part of a two-part series featuring Memphis, TN :).
Like us to notice how both this song and Paul Simon's "Graceland" feature these beautiful little narrative vignettes crafted by the songwriter at each verse.
Cohn's is a story about his trip to Memphis and the connections he felt and made there--obviously of an almost spiritual nature.
Simon, on the other hand, creates emotionally poignant moments through stunning metaphorical clarity and deep human insight--tying simple objects like a hairbrush to a feeling of loss--and we all get it.
