An honest review of the Line 6 Helix STADIUM XL inside and out. I include the I/O, the controls, programming editor, the processor and chips, and loads of other useful stuff like warranty and more.
I cover the majority of things once I disassembled it (but not all) with the Line 6 Helix Stadium XL and it was surprising about the processors and chips inside the unit as well as the overall construction. The info says 'Made in China' but some PCB's stated 'Malaysia' so maybe its a multi build from different areas of the world.
I was waiting for this device for months, and even after its release, some of the 'important stuff' (at least to me) is still missing and they are promising a firmware update at some stage. Its a bit sad really at nearly £2000 here in the UK that they took the decision to release a partly complete product as I write in December 2025.
If you have just bought one of these Stadium or Stadium XL units this video will likely help you to get around the unit, but understand this is a close up REVIEW and not a training video.
One thing I can say, is that the Stadium XL does sound better than the older Helix and in my opinion many of the other units out there but at the price it should! I do own a Helix Rack and the tones from that device are not quite the same. And check out Playing 2 as that tone really sounded as good as the amp. I originally played that on 'Gravity Waves' album with Alan Bruce.
Don't compare this floor Stadium XL with a Fractal Audio FX3 - they are different and to be fair the Fractal is older, and likewise with a Kemper either as that units been around a while too (at least the one I own). You can talk about most brands where this would apply whether Roland Boss, Headrush, Tonex or many others. It does make the Tonex rather nasal... good!
The Helix Stadium floor XL in my opinion does outshine any of the other units I have tried out there and when that firmware is applied then this will be a device that will rock the guitar world for sure. Its very well made, includes 4 processors and a host of newer chips than other devices and deserves to be a leading product.
I love the overall feel of the Stadium XL and I'm sure that the quality of other models will be the same high standard. When you see the quality it does speak greatly of Line 6 and Yamaha in my opinion.
WARRANTY UPDATE
The Line 6 Helix Stadium XL comes with a 3-year warranty in the UK, which includes unlimited technical support for duration of ownership. It's valid only in the region where the product was purchased, and it is recommended to buy the unit locally for warranty services. Mine was delivered from Andertons for what that's worth.
I have written an even more in depth review of the original HELIX floor pedal on my website (its linked above) and I'm sure that review could open your eyes a little to the Helix even today in December 2025.
