When we first heard about Hyundai requiring a computer connection complete with subscription software to perform a simple rear brake pad service, it was via a video by @louisrossman, and to be honest we thought he might have been mistaken since he's not an actual hands on mechanic. But, we did just a little digging, and as it turns out this is actually the case with current model years Ionic 5 EVs.
The fear here, is that if Hyundai can get away with this on this one model, there is nothing to stop any manufacturer from incorporating in any vehicle, this locking the little guy shop and DIY mechanic out of performing the most basic and common maintenance and repairs.
