Hund’s Rule
“Empty seat on the bus rule”
Fill one space in each orbital within a sublevel before filling the second seat in an orbital
When electrons occupy orbitals of equal energy (like the three 2p orbitals), they:
Fill each orbital singly first (↑ ↑ ↑)
Then begin to pair up (↑↓ ↑ ↑)
This minimizes electron repulsion and increases stability.
