Teams are already battling fires on the ground, and if they spread, orangutan rescues could begin again very soon.
We have seen this happen before during past El Niño years. When El Niño brings hotter, drier conditions, forests become far more vulnerable to fire. And when fire tears through orangutan habitat, food disappears. Hunger follows. Suffering follows. Mothers and babies can be forced to flee, pushed out of the forest and into even greater danger.
That is exactly what this appeal is trying to prevent.
