Yes – they really are the LOUDEST land mammals on Earth!

Howler monkey calls can reach an incredible 140 decibels at close range – comparable to the roar of a jet engine!

So please spare a thought for our wonderful keepers, who work very closely with these living loudspeakers. Thankfully, the orphans in our care are still babies, so for now their calls are more ‘awwww’ than ‘OH MY GOD, WHAT WAS THAT?!’
