What’s it like to study therapeutic recreation and apply what you learn right away?
For Emma, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee gave her the hands-on experience, flexibility and leadership development to turn classroom learning into real-world impact.
At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Emma’s coursework in occupational science & technology focused on disability studies, therapeutic recreation and skill development. From improving social and fine motor skills through play-based activities to building leadership experience, her classes connected directly to her work in the field.
While earning her degree, Emma worked as a recreation program leader, leading social programs, community outings, arts activities and summer camps. Balancing class during the day and programs at night helped her immediately apply what she was learning. And led to a promotion and a full-time role as a recreation supervisor after graduation.
