Happy Thanksgiving! As you sit down this year for a scrumptious Thanksgiving dinner, having prepared your best Thanksgiving recipes, I want to tell you about the turkey you’re NOT eating for Thanksgiving.
I want to tell you the story of the WILD turkey, a bird once well on its way to extinction, but now numbers in the millions. It’s a true conservation success story.
Unregulated hunting and habitat loss once threatened these wily birds, but restoration efforts, game laws, and incredibly, the Great Depression helped stave off the worst of the crisis.
I’ve become quite fond of these wild turkeys while researching for this video. They’re truly remarkable animals. Resilient. Resourceful. Downright beautiful. Today, there are more than 7 million wild turkeys spread across the North American continent, gobbling and waddling their way back from the dark depths of extinction. I for one, am glad they’re back.
