Stabilizing FPV drone video footage is harder than you might think. Proximity flying and flying through stuff can throw stabilization algorithms off and the result ends up being worse than the original footage you were trying to improve.
Just to be clear, this video is not sponsored by anyone. I put countless hours into this and what you see in the video is only the best I could achieve with each software, after dozens of scrapped stabilized footage.
I have included overlays of the original footage on top of the stabilized results, so that you can see how much and how smoothly (or how poorly and choppy) the footage has been stabilized. If you want to watch at a slower speed, click the gear icon on the Youtube player.
I wanted to know if there is any software that can effectively stabilize FPV video footage. Clearly this style of flying confuses the stabilizers and the end result is either not good enough or simply bad.
Taking advantage of GoPro's built-in gyro with ReelSteady GO is the key. On top of that, it is ridiculously simple and the result is almost always awesome.
Instead of getting a Hero 8, I bought a Hero 6 and the money I saved will go to Reelsteady GO. Hypersmooth does work well but I prefer to have complete control over the post processing - and the ability to lock the horizon is a great bonus.
You can try any of the software I used in the links below and see for yourself - let me know your settings if you managed to work things out better than I did.
Reelsteady only works with compatible GoPros. If you want to stabilize video from anything else, you can try Shotcut which is free & open source.
Mercalli does a serious image analysis but the algorithm cannot stabilize this type of flying well enough. Also it has a steep learning curve.
Remember: try to fly as smoothly as possible. It will make it easier for the software and will prevent your video from being cropped a lot.

![New test series: Motors, Propellers, ESCs and BNF/ARF/RTF quads Benchmarking - RCTESTBEN.CH
It has been a roller-coaster of a ride but this new test series is finally ready!
The test rig is fully automated and capable of testing the performance of motors, propellers and ESCs, from 1S up to 6+S.
β Specific sets of props for each motor size will be used for standardized motor testing. The results of measured thrust, current draw, voltage and efficiency, on various throttle and thrust levels, will be plotted in graphs.
β New propellers will be added to the pool and will be tested on various motors - the results will be plotted accordingly.
β ESCs will be tested on specific sets of motors/props, to reduce the variables as much as possible.
β BNF/ARF/RTF quadcopters will be disassembled and their performance will be benchmarked with the stock motor and prop combination, as well as with other propellers.
β In the case of micro/tiny sized quads (especially if the frame is ducted), the whole quad will be mounted on the thrust stand and the results will be divided by the number of motors, so that they can be compared to the rest of the results.
β If the micro quad is brushed or the ESC is not easily accessible / directly soldered to an AiO board, the process will be automated via my Taranis X9D transmitter and a custom script, which will consistently ramp the throttle while the testing equipment logs the data.
As soon as a class of products is populated, you will find detailed comparison charts, comparing the performance of the tested product to the performance of products with the same (or similar) characteristics.
π I hope you enjoy and find this test series useful! Subscribe, stay tuned and hit that bell icon to get notified, here: https://goo.gl/6HNc7H

![Runcam Micro Sparrow 2 Pro VS Micro Eagle VS Micro Sparrow 2 VS Predator V2 - BEST FOR LESS
If you liked the idea of a full-sized lens on a micro-sized camera body (as seen in the Runcam Micro Eagle) and also liked how the Micro Sparrow 2 performed, then the Runcam Sparrow 2 Pro is definitely for you.
It quickly followed its very light M8 lens variant and offers a fully enclosed casing, a full size lens and all the features you would expect from a FPV camera.
It is fair to say that 2018 has been the year of CMOS cameras, at least so far. There have been so many new cameras and so many options to choose from - which is a great thing.
Which one do you prefer? Let me know in the comments, below ;)

![FXT T82 Venus Pro VS Predator Micro V2 VS Micro SDR2 VS Micro Swift 2 - CAMERA COMPARISON
The new micro-sized cameras from FXT (the Mars S and the Venus Pro) come in a fully enclosed case - unlike the bare PCB with a lens holder screwed on top, found in other micro FPV cameras. This allows for better protection, although time will tell how crash resistant is the casing itself.
Also the threaded holes for mounting are two and off-center, instead of a single mounting hole in the middle of the height of the camera. Depending on the frame you are using, this will either allow you to secure the camera more firmly or will force you to mount it higher (or lower).
As for the performance, it reminds me of the T81 Venus, for which I never even made a video. Lens flaring is very similar to the Micro SDR2 from Caddx and the overall image quality has nothing to write home about.
Looking forward to trying the Mars S, which seems to be more promising.
