This is a guide on replacing a screen on a Dell Latitude 5410
For the replacement process we will need the following tools:
- a heat gun
- a plastic pick
- tweezers
- and a screwdriver
To begin turn the laptop off and disconnect the power cord.
Start removing the bezel. The bezel is held in place by tubs and the glue along the outer edge.
Using plastic pick pry off the bezel from the back cover. Start from the top left corner then move
along the top outer edge. Using both hands start unsnapping the tabs underneath the bezel.
Go along the perimeter. Put the bezel aside.
We assume that the LCD screen is held in place by two stripes of glue on the right and the left sides.
Using a heat gun start warming up the glue. Use a plastic pick to pry off the LCD screen.
Remove two screws at the bottom of the screen. Release the two hooks at the top and place the LCD
on the keyboard.
It turns out that the use of the Heat Gun was unnecessary. The glue was used to attach two metal plates to
the screen. Remove the old glue from underneath the metal plates. Put the metal plates aside.
Peel off the tape securing the video connector. Using the plastic pick open the connector's bracket.
Disconnect the video cable. Discard the old screen.
Take the new screen and place it on the keyboard. Reconnect the video cable. Close the connector's bracket
and secure it with a tape. Next step is to reattach the two metal plates to the back of the new LCD screen.
Use alcohol to clean the surfaces. Apply two adhesive stripes to the back of the LCD screen.
Reattach the metal plates.
Lift the screen up making sure that the top side is hung on hooks. Replace two Phillips screws in
the bottom corners. Remove the protective film. Now we can test the new screen. Reconnect the power cord
and turn the laptop on. The screen is working and we can finish the replacement process.
Replace the bezel. Press firmly along the perimeter snapping tabs back in place. Use one hand to support the back cover
while snapping tabs at the bottom of the screen. Turn the laptop over and make sure that all the tabs are in place
near the hinges.
Turn the laptop on and we are done!
