How to Operate the iHealth Neo Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor
The iHealth Neo (BP5S) is a convenient upper-arm blood pressure monitor because the monitor and cuff are all one unit—there are no tubes connecting the cuff to a separate display. It also has a rechargeable battery, so you can take it with you and use it without being connected to a wall outlet while measuring.
1. Put the cuff on your arm correctly
Wrap the cuff around your upper arm, about ½ inch (1–2 cm) above your elbow.
One particularly important thing about the Neo is its orientation. Look at the monitor on the cuff and find the iHealth logo and the "UP" indication. The "UP" end should be facing upward toward your shoulder/heart, rather than toward your hand.
When you're measuring:
The monitor should sit along the inside/center portion of your upper arm.
The cuff should be snug, but you should be able to fit about one finger underneath it.
Your palm should be facing upward.
Rest your arm on a table with the cuff approximately level with your heart.
Keep your back supported and your feet flat on the floor.
Don't talk or move while the measurement is being taken.
2. Start the blood pressure measurement
Once you're sitting comfortably and have been resting for about 5 minutes, simply press the START button on the Neo.
The display will turn on and the cuff will automatically inflate. The Neo measures your blood pressure while the cuff inflates, then displays your:
Systolic (top number)
Diastolic (bottom number)
Pulse rate
The measurement is automatically saved in the monitor's memory.
You don't have to have your phone with you every time you take a reading. The Neo can take offline measurements and store them internally.
3. Use the M button to see previous readings
The M button stands for Memory.
After you've taken measurements, press M to recall your previous readings.
Press M once → shows your most recent measurement.
Press M again → shows the measurement before that.
Continue pressing M → moves backward through your stored measurements.
The Neo can store up to 200 measurements, although the manual's memory-display instructions describe stepping through the most recent readings. Once the 200-measurement capacity is reached, the oldest measurements are overwritten by new ones.
4. Charging the iHealth Neo
The Neo has a built-in rechargeable battery, rather than requiring AA batteries.
The charging connection is on the bottom of the monitor. Plug the supplied micro-USB charging cable into the charging port and connect it to a USB power source.
It's a nice feature because you can simply charge it and then take the monitor with you. iHealth says a full charge can provide 130+ measurements.
5. One of the best things about the Neo: it's wireless and portable
Unlike traditional blood-pressure monitors that have a separate display unit connected to the cuff by an air tube, the Neo puts the cuff and electronic monitor together in one compact device.
That makes it particularly convenient for:
Keeping beside your bed
Taking to doctor's appointments
Traveling
Keeping in a bag
Checking your BP away from home
It can also connect to the iHealth MyVitals app through Bluetooth if you want to keep track of your readings on your phone. But you don't have to use the phone for every measurement.
One important point given the readings you've been seeing: make sure the "UP" marking is actually pointing toward your shoulder/heart and that the cuff is at heart level each time. Incorrect positioning can affect the measurement, so it's worth being very consistent when you're comparing the Neo with your SmartHeart monitor.
