Whilst not really a regular tutorial as such, this short video shows you how i free poured this large artwork for my living room. It's SOOOO easy, literally anyone can do this and make themselves a beautiful piece or art for their home for just a few dollars.
I use a 3mm MDF board from my local hardware store that cost around AUD$8. I primed it first and let that dry.
Next i mixed my paint colours. Try to choose a colour palette before you start so you have an idea of the colours you'll need to buy and mix to get the right shades. I used the equivalent of around 12 small tubes of paint for this. In old containers i mixed 1 part paint, 1 part clear craft glue & 3 parts water. For the white layer i thinned it out with a bit more water.
Before painting, lay down some plastic and float the board on something, i used an old trash bin, but a few paper cups also works. Make sure your board is very flat and level.
Before adding the white i sprayed the whole board just lightly with the hose. This gives it a little more fluidity and the colours can spread easily. I always do my white layer first and make sure the white covers at least 50% of the board. Then simply pour on your other colours from lightest to darkest!
I let my board dry for 3 days outside under cover. I then added 2 coats of a clear satin spray on coating. This helped brighten the colours back up. You can also use gloss if you want the colour even more vivid.
I then used a craft glue and drizzled it around the board following the flow of where colours meet. I let it dry for 10 mins then added gold leaf on top and brushed off the excess.
I also made the frame just using some simple pine. I just cut a channel for the board to slide into. Easy!
