A topic I have not seen often discussed is the issue of bar spin on bench press. In powerlifting, we are mainly fighting against vertical gravitational forces, but when elements of bar spin occur, it creates additional inertia that we have to fight against. In particular, I find this issue to be most prominent on bench press. In this video, I discuss what is bar spin, and how really it is the "plate spin" that is the main issue. I look at the reasons bar spin occurs on bench press, which mainly comes down to issues with the wrist actively extending during the descent of the movement. And then lastly, I look at the possible fixes for each issue that was presented to help improve technique and limit bar spin on the bench press.
