Learn how to create stitches for the bottom of a pocket when working a garment from the bottom-up, without breaking your yarn!
The video demonstrates how to place the provisional stitches onto a secondary needle, however you could also use a tapestry needle and waste yarn in place of a secondary needle. Use whichever feels most comfortable for you!
If you want to follow along I have used a DK weight yarn and a US 8 (5mm), 16” / 40 cm circular needle. I have cast on 20 sts and worked roughly 6 rows of reverse stockinette, ending with a RS row (ready to work a WS row).
I will create a 10 stitch pocket in the center of the work. Each stitch for a pocket requires a KFB; so if you'd like to create a larger pocket, perhaps one that is 30 stitches wide, you would knit 30 kfb in a row.
Row 1 (WS): K5, (kfb) 10 times, k5.
Row 2 (RS): P6, (sl1 to front needle, p1) 10 times, p4.
To continue in pattern, once all of the 10 sts from the original KFB's on on the needle, you will simply work in reverse stockinette (knit all WS rows, purl all RS rows).
