Learn the steps necessary to start a 1-color brioche project, worked in the round.
This video is a replacement/supplement to the video originally created 3 years ago (youtube.com/watch?v=DQbrSPQC0EM) when I was a newbie to creating video tutorials. I hope you find the speed and explanations in this new video useful!
Abbreviations:
- brk: brioche knit (knit the st together with its wrap)
- brp: brioche purl (purl the st together with its wrap)
- sl1yo: slip 1, yarnover (with the working yarn in front, slip the st purlwise, creating a wrap as you move the working yarn into position to brk or brp the next st)
If you want to follow along I have used a worsted weight yarn and a US 8 (5mm), 16” / 40 cm circular needle. I have cast on 80 sts (roughly the quantity needed for an adult-sized slouch hat) and joined in the round, placing a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
Setup Rnd 1a: *K1, sl1yo; rep from * to end of rnd (note that the last st worked will be a sl1yo).
Setup Rnd 1b: *Sl1yo; brp1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2a: *Brk1, sl1yo; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2b: *Sl1yo, brp1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep [Rnds 2a and 2b].
